I stay at the Highdown most weeks, the staff are great, they call to make sure I am on my way if arriving late and special mention to Serina who always has a smile and a double espresso ready for me bright and early. The rooms are a great size and the beds are super comfortable - maybe I shouldn’t be saying all this…

Four of us visited for lunch,food and service was excellent all at a reasonable price!food was piping hot and lots of people having meals,so they must be doing something right. Well worth a visit.

It’s a hot summer and the room is hot. It’s not warm, it’s hot. The AC doesn’t work, and apparently hasn’t been working fundamentally for almost a year. I asked for a fan for 4 days and they finally gave me a small fan that doesn’t work! It’s a tiny fan dub as a heater, and there’s no wind coming out. My room was over 84F. The engineers were not helpful, however they really tried and they were so much nicer than the receptionist.
The rooms are spacious, and I have to say the staffs are trying and most are nice. The front desk however was quite rude. But with the quality of the breakfast, which doesn’t even have toasts or cornflakes, I’m not sure how this hotel has 4 stars.
With the money paid, it’s really not worth it. With the same money you can stay at somewhere 3 stars and better. I’ve asked for a refund and it’s not even an option. Note that there’s a €37 per night amenity fees after your stay, and with the only amenity I was satisfied was the ice machine, to cool the room off, it’s not worth it.
For the price they charge per night, you don’t expect to have so many mosquitoes in your room, literally not seen anything like it. The ledge that has the panelling above the headboard hasn’t seen a duster since I don’t know when. We only came across that when trying to rid the mosquitoes, and that was thick dust then settling on our beds. Also the fan in the wardrobe has also not been cleaned in a very long time. It too was covered in thick dust. It’s a real shame we had this experience as the hotel itself is so picturesque, and the 3 course meal was amazing. We mentioned to the manager about it when checking out, and showing the bites we had. He said ‘did you have you window open’ which we hadn’t. Then said it is June, so should expect mosquitoes. We said you should put plug in repellents or something in the room, for him to reply ‘ thank you for your feed back’
Pretty location, great food choices, sadly let down tonight by the very slow service. Waited at least 45 minutes in between courses which is not acceptable. Obviously not enough staff, management do better & support your employees! Shame to see the tracksuit crew, make an effort when dining out x
Lovely large pub garden. Staff are friendly and helpful. We had steak hamburgers and chips which were delicious. Lovely gardens beside the hotel for a pleasant walk. A good loyalty scheme to collect tickets for discounted food for next time.
We hadn’t been for a while as had beeb disappointed with the food, went tonight the waiting staff were super but the food was a huge disappointment, we sent 1 main course back but none of it was particularly good, shame venue is lovely staff are so good food just about mediocre
Restaurant meal was good apart from Pork but everything else fantastic. Ruby the waitress apparently it was her first day on the job and must say she was absolutely delightful and professional. She was excellent. More staff like her please.
We were two couples who had been given vouchers for afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was excellent, a good variety of savoury and sweet. However, having given in our vouchers to the waiter, we were very surprised when we were presented with a bill. It was explained that it was the difference between the price when the vouchers were bought, and the current price. As the vouchers were valid for a year we thought this unreasonable. Bearing this in mind, we would not recommend anyone purchasing vouchers for gifts at the Highdown Hotel.
Went for Sunday lunch with friends. The service was excellent as was the food. The staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. We loved the atmosphere of the place the cleanliness and will certainly go there again. The whole experience was superb and I have to mention the toilets which were amazing.
